Teaching & Supervision
My teaching focuses on print production systems, process control, and digital printing workflows, with emphasis on measurement practice, applied tools, and laboratory-based learning.
Courses
Printing Process Control
This course examines process and quality control in offset lithography, treating prepress, plate making, and printing as an integrated workflow. It introduces students to colour perception, colour reproduction, plate-making procedures, pressrun operations, and the use of standards and measurement in print quality control.
Topics
- Process and quality control in offset lithography
- Integrated workflow: prepress, plate making, and printing
- Fundamentals of colour perception
- Colour reproduction theory in offset lithography
- Plate-making procedures
- Pressrun operation
- Measurement in print quality control
- Standards and specifications for process control
Learning activities and tools
- Monitor colour verification using X-Rite i1Profiler
- Colour measurement using X-Rite i1 Pro
- Analysis of verification reports (ΔE₀₀ values, neutral gray range)
- Dot uniformity testing on offset printing plates
- Use of Techkon Spectroplate and SpectroConnect software
- Digital colour proof verification using Fogra MediaWedge CMYK V3
- Process control analysis based on Solid Ink Density (SID)
- Tone Value Increase (TVI / Dot Gain) analysis
- Print Contrast measurement
- Ink Trapping analysis
- Preparation of technical reports and presentations
Teaching tools and applied practice
Structured worksheets were developed to support laboratory-based learning and guide students in interpreting measurement data during offset printing exercises.
-
Solid Ink Density (SID) Worksheet — supports monitoring and adjustment of ink density during press operation
(Download)
-
Tone Value Increase (TVI) Worksheet — supports analysis of dot gain behaviour and print consistency
(Download)
These tools are used during live printing sessions in the laboratory, helping students connect measurement, visual output, and process control.
Digital & Variable Data Printing
This course explores established and emerging digital printing technologies, their technical characteristics, and their role in contemporary print production. It covers variable data printing, print-on-demand production, web-to-print processes, and data management practices used in digital printing environments.
Topics
- Digital printing technologies
- Technological characteristics of digital printing systems
- Applications of digital printing
- Variable data printing
- Print-on-demand production
- Web-to-print processes
- Digital printing production workflows
- Data-driven print processes
- Data management in digital printing
- Data scrubbing and data cleansing
Learning activities and tools
- Discussion of advanced theory and concepts in on-demand digital printing
- Examination of data-driven print in relation to digital printing production steps
- Analysis of value propositions in digital printing services

Internship Coordination and Placement Support
As Internship Coordinator for Printing Technology, I developed a structured placement-support worksheet to help students compare potential host organisations and make more informed internship decisions. The tool was designed to support students who may find it difficult to evaluate industrial placements systematically, particularly when balancing practical, technical, and organisational considerations.
Purpose and use
- Guide students in comparing potential internship organisations
- Support structured judgement rather than ad hoc choice
- Improve alignment between placement selection and programme expectations
- Assist academic review of host suitability and learning potential
Key features
- Host-organisation comparison across multiple criteria
- Structured scoring and decision support
- Consideration of learning value, supervision, and placement suitability
- Use in internship briefing, advising, and placement review
The worksheet supports a more consistent and reflective internship selection process, helping students think through placement choices more critically before entering industry training.
Note
A working internal version is used for coordination and advising. Public download is not provided because the full workbook includes internal administrative and student-specific information.
Materials are delivered through Google Classroom and UiTM UFUTURE.
